Particularly in the summer months, the weather can always thwart vacation plans. Because when it rains, it usually rains hard. To help you stay on the sunny side of the weather, we have put together an overview of the climate in Florida for you here.

From November to April is wintertime and the dry season in Florida in terms of climate, from May to October is summertime, when the rainy season also begins. In winter, the temperature is 21 °C and there is plenty of sunshine with virtually no rain. It rains regularly from June to September. This means that it is not only very hot but also humid. This weather peaks in July/August.

When is the Best Time to Travel to Florida?

The best time to visit Florida depends on what you want to do and where you want to go in Florida. The weather can be very different from the Florida Panhandle in the north to the Florida Keys and especially Key West in the south. Therefore, additional climatic information will be provided in the individual regions.

If you love cycling and kayaking tours, want to explore the nature parks or visit Disney World, you should come to Florida in the winter months. Disadvantage: It is expensive because the snow birds populate the Sunshine State. This is peak season, especially in Miami and South Florida, which also attracts large crowds. In North Florida, such as the Panhandle , it is too cold in winter, so although there are incomparably fewer tourists here, the summer tends to attract more vacationers.

If you prefer the sun, beach and sea, you can indulge in a dip in the Gulf of Mexico. However, from June to November, there is a risk of having to tell your loved ones at home about the “hurricane” experience. This is because the hurricane season falls in the summer period, with its peak from mid-August to mid-October. You can find out more at the National Hurricane Center.

Dryness, drought Saharan dust

So sehen die spektakulären Saharastaub Sonnenuntergänge aus.

Florida experiences one of the worst droughts in decades in 2025. Around 99% of the state’s land area is affected. In Central and South Florida in particular, many watercourses remain unusually low, affecting nature parks, boat tours and wildlife.

Large areas in the Everglades also dry out from time to time, which means that alligators, birds and other wild animals are unusually close to roads and hiking trails. Travelers should inform themselves in advance about local restrictions, as some tours are seasonally paused or adjusted.

In the summer months, Florida is regularly hit by Saharan dust from Africa, which moves across the Atlantic with the trade winds. These fine dust particles often cause hazy skies, reduce air quality and can trigger respiratory problems in sensitive people.

At the same time, Saharan dust suppresses the formation of tropical storms and leads to spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Anyone traveling during this time should limit strenuous outdoor activities in high concentrations and observe current air quality values.

Climate Overview of Regions in Florida

To help you plan your vacation in the best possible way, you will find clear climate tables with sunshine hours, temperatures and other climate data here – from the southeast to the northwest of Florida, depending on your destination.

<div class="wp-block-uagb-container
