The following section shows in pictures and a short video how the compacted foundation is prepared, the <strong>vapor barrier <\/strong>is laid and the <strong>steel reinforcement<\/strong> is installed. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.florida-scout.com\/en\/house-construction-report\/plumbing-rough-in\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"6872\">pipe laying<\/a> in the ground has been approved, the <strong>foundation is backfilled with sand<\/strong>, which is compacted using a vibrating plate. Now it is time again for the inspector to carry out a compaction test. He measures whether the degree of compaction specified in the construction plan has been adhered to.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If this is the case, you can continue building. A vapor <strong>barrier film<\/strong> (vapo barrier) is now laid over the entire floor plan. This will later prevent water vapor rising from the floor from entering the house. Finally, <strong>steel mesh mats<\/strong> are laid over this foil to ensure that the future floor slab does not crack. This leads to additional earthworks and increased construction costs, but offers long-term protection and can have a positive impact on insurance premiums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reinforced base plates for increased safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The standard thickness of a concrete floor slab in Florida is <strong>around 15 cm<\/strong> (6 inches). However, in regions with high water tables or increased hurricane risk, thicker slabs with additional steel reinforcement are increasingly being used. These reinforced floor slabs offer greater stability and resistance to extreme weather conditions.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each construction phase, including the preparation for pouring the floor slab, is subject to<strong> strict inspections<\/strong> by local authorities in Florida. Before proceeding to the next phase of construction, each phase must be officially approved.
