For casual t-shirts, you’ll see simple sizes like S, M, or L. But for formal or business shirts (dress shirts), US sizing is based on two precise measurements: the neck size and the sleeve length, both in inches.

1. How to Measure Your Neck Size:
Take a soft measuring tape and wrap it around the base of your neck, right where the collar would naturally rest. To ensure the collar won’t be too tight, place one finger between the tape and your neck. The resulting measurement in inches is your neck size, for example, 15.5 or 16.

2. How to Measure Your Sleeve Length:
This measurement can be tricky to do by yourself, so it’s best to ask for help. Stand up straight with your arm slightly bent at your side. The measurement should start at the center of the back of your neck, go over the top of your shoulder, and continue down your arm to your wrist bone. This total length in inches is your sleeve size. Shirt sizes are often written as 16 / 34-35, meaning a 16-inch neck and a sleeve length suitable for 34 to 35 inches.

How to Find Your Perfect Pant Size: Waist and Length (W/L)

Unlike European sizes which often use a single number, US pant sizes are typically shown with two numbers, like 34/32. This system is very precise once you understand it. The first number is the waist size (W), and the second is the leg length or inseam (L), both measured in inches.

1. Measuring Your Waist (W):
To get your waist measurement, use a soft tape measure. Wrap it around your natural waistline, which is the area where your pants normally sit. Don’t pull the tape too tight; it should be snug but not digging in. The number you see in inches is your “W” size.

2. Measuring Your Inseam (L):
