On the shores of beautiful Sarasota Bay, the industrialist William Selby and his wife opened what is now a 36,000 m² blooming oasis of tranquillity with a focus on orchids .

Visitors will also find many tropical plants outdoors and in the conservatory. According to Wikipedia, the gardens are home to more than 20,000 living plants, including 5500 orchids. Hibiscus, cacti, bamboo and many other tropical plants offer the full range of tropical colors. Mangroves, butterflies and waterfalls line the path.

Every now and then, Europeans marvel at how their native houseplants grow and thrive here in all their glory. Marie and William Selby were great lovers of nature and opened this beautiful site as a botanical garden in 1975. The magnificent old trees, the greenhouses full of thousands of orchids and the picturesque location make the garden unique and well worth a visit.
