Miami street art on the Wynwood Walls

Wynwood Walls Miami
Numerous artists from all over the world design the Wynwood Walls in Miami.

Art is everywhere in Miami, but the Wynwood Walls in the district of the same name are a very special experience. You don’t know where to look first with all the colorful splendor that has been conjured up by numerous artists from all over the world in a bold, inspiring and very professional manner on the walls of Miami’s once dilapidateddistrict.

Hundreds of the so-called murals – huge wall paintings – now form the exhibits of one of the world’s largest open-air street art museums. Old warehouses and factories that have been transformed into living works of art serve as canvases. Funny comic figures, colorful ornaments, oversized thumb illusions or hauntingly gazing faces: in Wynwood, the boundaries between painting, graphics and fantasy are blurred.

Florido’s Tips for your Visit

  • Come early or late in the day when the light is better and there are fewer tourists around – ideal for taking photos.
  • Comfortable shoes are worthwhile: if you want to explore the adjacent roads, you will quickly cover a few kilometers.
  • Don’t just visit the core area: some of the most spectacular murals are located outside the official Wynwood Walls area – for example along NW 2nd Avenue.
  • There are parking lots, but they usually charge a fee. Plan a few dollars for a parking garage or the parking app.
  • The Paradox Museum is also worth a visit if you still have time, as it is only a few minutes’ walk away.
Florido Tip

Street art at its very best

It is thanks to real estate developer Tony Goldman and his daughter Jessica, who died in 2009, that this vision became a reality. Goldman’s simple but ingenious idea was to use the windowless warehouse walls as giant canvases for street artists from all over the world, such as Shepard Fairey and Ron English. With this initiative, he not only saved the historic Wynwood district from decay, but also created a cultural hotspot that now attracts millions of visitors every year.

His daughter Jessica Goldman Srebnick was CEO of Goldman Properties for many years. She further developed her father’s vision and made the Wynwood Walls internationally known by bringing renowned street artists to Miami. Today, she is considered one of the most important promoters of urban art in the USA.

Wynwood Walls also without admission

Wynwood is strategically located between Miami Beach and Miami International Airport. The centerpiece is the official Wynwood Walls Visitor Center, which presents a particularly spectacular collection of selected murals. There are fixed opening hours and a moderate entrance fee. The countless other murals in the adjacent streets are freely accessible around the clock – perfect for a relaxed stroll through one of Miami’s most creative corners.

Paradox Museum Miami – the perfect complementary experience

Just a few steps away from the Wynwood Walls is the fascinating Paradox Museum Miami. Here, everything revolves around optical illusions, changes in perspective and interactive art. Visitors experience over 70 illusions up close and can take creative pictures/photos of themselves that challenge every perception. The Paradox Museum is the ideal complement to the street art experience in the Wynwood Art District and is a real insider tip, especially for families, creative types and Instagram fans.
