Picnic and swim at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park

Just before Naples – coming from the north – is the Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park with a long stretch of beach with five parking spaces. Although the beach is not very suitable for small children, it makes swimmers’ hearts beat faster. The beach is very narrow (it is said to have been much wider in the past) and goes deep into the water quite quickly.
While you have to walk a long way into the water at many other beaches, here you are in deep water after just a few meters, depending on the tide. It is turquoise green and very warm.
In this tropical beach paradise, visitors have a wide, calm view of the Gulf of Mexico, where they can observe many wading birds and wild animals. Snorkeling goggles are not entirely out of place, you can spot small and even larger fish due to the clear water. According to the park’s official website, there is also a reef. Dolphins dare to come close to the shore and if you are lucky, they will come within a meter or two of you.
Ramp for boaters in Delnor Wiggins Park
There are special areas for anglers in the northern areas and a ramp for boaters. Numerous sanitary facilities are available and there is also a store at parking lot 4 where you can rent food, drinks, beach equipment such as kayaks, paddle boats, canoes, umbrellas, sun loungers and beach wheelchairs. A pavilion can be hired for special occasions such as weddings or birthdays.
There is a lookout tower at the end of the park at parking lot 5. From here, however, you can only see the vegetation from above, from which only a very small corner of the sea peeps out. The rough mouth of the Cocohatchee River with its dangerous surf can also be found there. Swimming is prohibited here, but this wild beach is definitely worth a look.
If you want to use the numerous picnic areas, you should plan your visit to the park during the week, according to some comments on the relevant websites, because the picnic areas are overcrowded by many Cuban and Mexican families at the weekend. Entry to the park costs $6 per four-axle vehicle for 2 or more people.
